On the way to completing our Students’ Guides

dec 9, 2021 | News

Our four students’ guides on inclusive education, facilitation of inclusive play and inclusive communities are nearing their completion! No wonder that PINC partners were in a great mood during their partners’ meeting on 29/30 November. For the first time at least some of the partners could meet in presence in Trikala/Greece; the others participated from remote.

The PINC Student’s Guides will help prospective teachers/educators to address in a comprehensive way the inclusion of children with disabilities in play and recreative activities, both during and after school:

  • The first PINC guide sets out the legal basis for inclusion of pupils with disabilities in education and describes the current state of play of inclusive education in the five PINC partner countries.
  • The second PINC guide explains why play is fundamentally important for children. It then presents a framework for an observational analysis of play situations and for a subsequent planning of interventions that allow inclusion of all children in play.
  • In the third PINC guide, a number of case studies illustrate how teachers and educators put the observational model into practice: first, play situations are observed and the “target students” are detected – i.e., thechildrenwho need support by a play mediator. The play mediator analyses a variety of factors and then selects specific games to ensure that all children will be able to participate and experience fun play moments.
  • Finally, the fourth guide goes beyond the classroom and explains how schools can be drivers of social change among the wider community by taking action that involves families, other schools and organisations outside the school.

Beginning of next year, we will thus be ready to present you here our final guides – and are excited about testing them with students from Education and Sports’ Faculties in spring 2022. Before the piloting starts in March 2022, a fifth guide will be completed; it will set out an overall didactic framework for University professors facilitating the PINC training.
